ORIGINAL WW2 US ARMY PARATROOPER M1 GARAND RIFLE GRISWOLD BAG

This Griswold US paratrooper drop bag was meant to hold a disassembled M1 Garand, an M1 Carbine, or a Thompson SMG. The guns were usually broken down into three sections: barrel, stock, and trigger group. Many complaints came from Normandy paratroopers who lost precious seconds removing their weapon from the 'Griswold Bag’ and assembling and loading the M-1 while enemy troops approached.

Cover jump (Griswold Bag) 2nd model, heavy canvas OD # 7

Has full closure "TALON" zipper. On the rear side is the regulatory marking contract “8300-44 (44 is the manufacturing date) 2650"

It was distributed to all airborne divisions engaged in Europe (17th, 82nd and 101st AB).

It has the silver snap hook on the reverse which attached the bag to a metal loop mounted high on the right chest portion of the main jump harness.
