The badge is metal and has a tab/clasp for attaching to the hat with the maker’s mark.
The Fort Garry Horse was a Canadian Armoured Regiment, established in 1912. Named after Fort Garry, a Hudson's Bay Company trading post in Winnipeg, the regiment has served with distinction in both World Wars. During WW1, they fought in key battles including Vimy Ridge and Cambrai as part of the Canadian Cavalry Brigade.
In WW2, the regiment changed to an armoured role, participating in the Normandy landings and the push through Europe.
