CARL ZEISS JENA FERNGLAS 08 BINOCULARS 1917 - ORGINAL

This is a pair of WW1 German Carl Zeiss Jena army binoculars 6x39 field glasses by Carl Zeiss (Jena), designated “Fernglas 08” (literally, distance glass 08).

They are marked on the inter pupillary distance knurled locking knob “Carl Zeiss Jena”, “Fernglas 08” Dienstglas and “Nr 36661”.

On the top of the upper left bracket is “VI 1917” indicating a manufacture date of May 1917 or possibly the date taken into service.

These small 6x39 field glasses were highly preferred by German officers due to their convenience.

Type Dienstglas diameter 39mm, field of view 4.4 Grad ( 77m / 1000m) with single eye focusing.

Optics are good and adjustments in smooth working order.

No case, eye pieces or straps.

Received from the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Museum, Canada. The museum was selling off some of there museum’s items, to make room for more. The museum called it deaccessioning surplus museum artifacts.

The museum numbers their items for inventory purposes and you will see that there is a very small white number on this item put there by the museum. They are very easy to remove with your fingernail.
