SS BLURRED EDGE FOUR POCKET CAMOUFLAGE TUNIC - REPRODUCTION

Looks to be very old aged used reproduction SS tunic still in good condition. Marked SS-BW.

We got this tunic in a collection and we think it has a original Demjansk shield 1942 on the tunic.

The rest of the insignia is reproduction:

  • SS EM sleeve eagle
  • Unique M36 collar sewn on with silver tress
  • German SS-Scharfuhrer (Staff Sargeant) enlisted man collar tabs
  • German Waffen-SS NCO IInfantry shoulder boards with white piping

It is a size 48 chest.

The Blurred Edge SS camouflage pattern was one of many camouflage patterns used by the Germans in World War 2.  This camouflage pattern was used between 1941-1944.

The name Blurred Edge stems from its lack of geometric lines and sharp edges commonly seen in previous and subsequent patterns, such as Plane Tree and Liebermuster.

In the search for an effective camouflage design to be used by troops, the SS contracted art professor Johann Georg Otto Schick to develop patterns that effectively concealed the wearer regardless of distance.

His research resulted in numerous patterns, most of which were tested on the field during active combat in tandem with lab testing.

This two-pronged approach to research and development allowed for first-hand reports of efficacy from troops to factor in development of subsequent patterns.
