The 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division "Prinz Eugen" was initially named SS-Volunteer Division Prinz Eugen Division was a mountain infantry division of the Waffen-SS.

Formed  in late 1941 following the invasion in the Banat autonomous area this division included both Reich Germans and Volksdeutsche, ethnic Germans from Croatia, Hungary and Romania.  This division fought against communist lead Partisan resistance forces in Yugoslavia from 1942 to 9145. 

From 1942 to 1945, the division fought a counter-insurgency campaign against communist- The division surrendered on 11 May 1945 to Yugoslav Partisan forces.

In October 1942, the division led Operation Kopaonik, which was a  German-Bulgarian anti-guerrilla offensive.  Afterwards, the division took part in the Fourth anti-Partisan Offensive or Operation Weiss in the Croation Zagreb-Karlovac area.  This ant-Partisan Offensive  continued in many form up to 1945.

In April 1945 they division retreated towards Slovenia and on May 11, 1945 it surrendered to the Yugoslav People’s Army.  All personnel of the Prinz Eugen Division were taken prisoner by the Yougoslav’s and were killed.
