 M1936 FIELD-GREY WOOL TUNIC (FELDBLUSE) BRANDENBURG - REPRODUCTION

This M1936 Jager Regiment, Brandenburg Division Tunic is cut from top quality field grey wool and has 4 pleated patch pockets with scalloped flaps.

Bottle green collar.  Interior has quality rayon lining, French cuffs and slit for dagger hanger and a double neck closure.

Chest size 42.

The patch was worn on the upper right sleeve by Jager (light infantry) Regiments, Panzer-Grenadier Division, known as the Brandenburg Division.

For most of the war, this was an elite commando unit specializing in saboteur campaigns. In July 1944, several Division members were implicated in the failed assassination plot on Hitler. It was redesignated as a conventional unit and sent into action on the Eastern Front in December 1944, where the German Army was collapsing under the Soviet advance.

Karl-Heinz Oesterwitz. In October 1940 Oesterwitz was commander of the 7th Company of the Brandenburg Regiment. In April 1941 he took part in the Balkans Campaign and from June 1941 fought on the Eastern front. For the capture of an important bridge in August 1942 at Belorechenskaya during the advance into the Caucasus he was awarded the German Cross in Gold (13 December 1942). While still a first lieutenant, he won the Knight's Cross (30 April 1943) for an action in the West Caucasus.
