WWI CANADIAN MEDAL GROUP (BWM & Victory) FOR CANADIAN GUNNER JOHN FINNIE ORIGINAL

This is a grouping of the original medals of William John Finnie, from Toronto, Canada, originally born  September 6, 1892, in Peterhead Scotland. He initially serving with the R.F.A. as a Gunner for 5 1/2 years prior to transfer to the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force with the 69th Overseas Battery. 

On Sept 1917, he transferred again to the 8th Battalion Army Artillery.

He serviced from January 1912 until is discharge on May 27, 1918.

The two medals;  The 1918 King George medal and the Victory Medal have Gunner William John Finnie’s name engraved on the sides of them, along with his service number 340290.

The 1918 King George medal is approximately 1/42” in diameter with a bare headed King George V facing left, on the reverse side Saint George is naked on horseback and armed with a short word. 

The Victory Medal was awarded to all ranks of the WW1 Commonwealth (British, Canadian, New Zealand or Canadian).  Also awarded to civilians under contract or employed I military hospitals who severed in a theatre of war between August 5, 1914 to November 11, 1918.

A bronze medal of approx. 1.42” in diameter showing a winged, full-length figure of Victory holding a palm branch in her right hand and the left arm extended. The back states The Great War For Civilisation 1914 – 1919.

Both medals come with their original ribbons attached.  They are mounted on black felt as shown in images.
