The SA were the Sturmabteilung, meaning 'assault division' of the pre-Nazi party. Also known as Storm Division, Storm Troopers, or the Brown Shirts. There were the original paramilitary organization that was under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party, starting before WW2. They played a very important role in Hitler’s rise to power starting in the 1920’s. Their primary purpose was to provide protections from opposing parties, during Nazi rallies and assemblies. They also were used to disrupt other parties’ meetings.
The official uniform of the SA was a brown shirt and brown tie. The SA uniform color originated by chance when a large shipment of surplus stock of tropical/colonial shirts was found in Austria. These were quickly utilized as the SA uniform.
