GERMAN MP40 SECOND VERSION RUBBER MUZZLE COVER CAP
We have an amazing find from Normandy and it has an amazing story to go with it. A friend of mine got these MP 40 rubber muzzle covers from the person whose job it is to recover and return German WW2 soldiers remains back to their family in Germany. German soldiers are still found in France today. Over the years, he has found 100’s of these MP 40 rubber muzzle caps, among a million other things I am sure, with his work. Many of these caps came with French soil and grass still in them.
This is the second version MP 40 rubber muzzle cover. The MP 40 muzzle cap was similar to the K98 cap, but slightly bigger in order to fit the 9mm muzzle nut. This one had the advantage that in case of emergency you could shoot through the rubber cap. Every soldier equipped with an MP 40 received four of these. Original ones are quite rare since they were considered expendable. The rubber MP 40 cap was also used on early MP 44's.
