This is a German Allgemeine-SS transitional M16 helmet with double decal.  The original German WWI M16 Helmet shell has been completely refurbished.

Comes with the SS runes on the right-hand side, and party shield on left side.  Maker marked ET 66. Maker:  Eisenhuttenwerke Thale (ET).

Also has a high quality reproduction European made M31 helmet liner size 58 and high-quality reproduction German leather chin strap.

The original M16 helmet shell has been repainted in black. Beautifully painted and aged to look like the originals.

We had this helmet refurbished in Eastern Europe by one of the best helmet restorers in the world in our opinion.

We get our German helmet shells at the flea markets/ military shops / antique shops in Normandy France.  We travel every spring to Omaha Beach and find many great military items.

WWI helmets were used in the Pre-War years of the Wehrmacht in the build up to WW2.  Before the famous M35 German helmets were made the SS-Verfugungstruppe (SS-VT) units were the first to begin using the WW1 field grey helmets models M16, M17 and M18.  These helmets were modiefied by adding the first pattern runic SS decal.
