This is reproduction German Blue Max medal display or presentation box. Holding the Prussian Pour le Merite or "Blue Max" award.
A smart presentation box for Prussian Pour le Mérite or "Blue Max" awards, complete with gold image of the award on the lid. Also has a gold image of the award on the lid, dark blue textured exterior, closure button, blue satin and velvet interior.
Measures approx. 6 1/4" X 3 1/4". You receive only the presentation box there is no medal included.
The 'Pour Le Mérite', or Blue Max as it became known during WW1 was one of the highest Prussian awards of merit awarded between 1813 and 1918. The addition of the oakleaves indicated extraordinary achievement in battle. Established in 1740 by King Frederick II of Prussia, the Pour le Mérite was awarded as both a military and civil honour. Revised in 1810 by King Frederick William III for outstanding bravery on the battlefield. Awarded during WWI to famous aviators such as - The Red Baron and Herman Goering.
