Bereichsleiter existed between the years of 1939 and 1945. The rank was a senior rank used in the higher levels of the Nazi Party.

The NSDAP was by nature a paramilitary organisation. The original purpose of these ranks was to provide leadership and organisation during election. After 1933, these ranks became a political chain of command, harmonising Nazi party leadership with local, regional and national government.
