This is an original WW2 US M1 helmet shell with front seam and swivel bales that has been refurbished.
All that was added to the M1 helmet shell was hand painted M1 1st Infantry Division emblem.
This is a completely restored original M1 helmet liner that we clean and repaint the outside then refit the interior with quality parts and accessories and in accordance with the original assembly with hand painted M1 1st Infantry Division emblem.
Also comes with M1 helmet net. We have 2 M1 1ST infanrty helmets in stock right now.
So you would recieve either the M1 original liner made by WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC COMPANY or CAPAC.
The M1 liners could have wear on the rim, minor warping, small nicks, chips or cracks. We repair the larger imperfections. They are over 70 years old so will not be brand new.
CAPAC
Manufactured in Capac, Michigan the “high pressure” manufactured M-1 helmet liner is identified by an embossed “cross” with the words “Capac” in the crown. Capac Manufacturing Company started M-1 helmet liner delivery to the US Army in September 1942. They produced approximately between 2,000,000 – 4,000,000 M-1 helmet liners and discontinued production around August 17 1945 when the war ended.
WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC COMPANY
Manufactured in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this high pressure manufactured M1 helmet liner is identified by an embossed “W” in the crown (which is still Westinghouse's logo to this day). Westinghouse was the largest M-1 helmet liner producer and had two production divisions: Micarta and Bryant Electric. The Micarta Division produced about 13,000,000 M1 helmet liners and the Bryant Electric Division about 10,000,000. Westinghouse Electric Company started M-1 helmet liner delivery in May 1942. Westinghouse did have a contract to produce airborne liners and converted an unknown amount to airborne.
The U.S. Armies 1st Infantry Division (1ID) is the oldest continuously serving division, starting in 1917. Officially nicknamed "The Big Red One" along with being called "The Fighting First."
The 1st Infantry left the states for south-west England in August 1942 and on October 22 they departed for the combat amphibious assault of North Africa. Returning to England when the campaign was over they remained to prepare for the upcoming invasion of Normandy. They became one of the first wave of troops that assaulted German Army defenses on Omaha Beach on D-Day.
After the drove across France in a continuous offensive. It took large numbers of prisoners during the Battle of the Mons Pocket and continued on to the German border of Aachen. The travelled east through the Hurtgen Forest into the Ruhr.
When the German Wacht Am Rhein offensive (Battle of the Bulge) was launched on December 16,1944 the division quickly moved to the Ardennes front. Fighting continuously from December 17 to January 28, 1944/45.
In February 1945 the division fought across the Ruhr and on to the Rhine, crossing the Remagen bridge on March 15-16.
Seventeen members of the division were awarded the Medal of Honor during WW2.
