FORESIGHT, BAR, DEFELCTION, MARK 1 SIGHT SET - ORIGINAL

Officially designated "Foresight, Bar, Deflection, Mark 1".  This long range sight assembly were first adopted at the end of WWI.

These bars were attached to the foresight to allow the horizontal movement of the sight to compensate for wind conditions when laying down fire over long ranges.

The devise consisted of a 10” flat bar which on its underside were clamps which fit over the existing foresight protector of the gun.  Tightening a thumbscrew to clamp in place.  The block could slide to the left or right end of the bar and be clamped in position.

Once a test shot was fired at a target the angle from the target could then be measured with a compass or the gun director, and the correction applied to the foresight. The gun could then be aimed directly at the target using the device rather than having to judge the correction by eye.

Comes in original web canvas carry case with a webbing tab closure, in almost unissued condition.  Dated 1941 marked with British broad arrow and the following:  R.M.B. 1941

On back side marked:  POUCHES, F.B.D. II.
