British 56th Infantry (London) Division Patch original war time made.

Embroidered red wool/felt with black cat on the front and with a gauze cloth backing. 1940 pattern.

This unit's emblem was Mayor of London Dick Whittington's cat. Formed as a Territorial Army Motor Division in September 1939, it was later reorganised as an infantry division in June 1940.

On 18 November of that year the formation was redesignated as 56th (London) Division under the command of Major-General Eric Miles.

The 56th Served in the middle east from 1942 to the end of the war in Italy. Among their order of the battle for a time in 1944 was the 1st Bn The Welch regiment.
