This round insignia was worn by members of the SS who reached the rank of Oberschutze, which took a minimum of 6 months service in the field or replacement army. This version was authorized for wear by the SS-Sicherheistsdienst and was the same design and size as the black based version but on a field-grey background This rank was worn on the upper left sleeve just below the national emblem from institution until January 1942 when the wearing of sleeve rank insignia was forbidden.
