WIELDING
THE IRON HAMMER AUTHENTIC The Mistle was a top-secret German aviation project. The pilots assigned to fly these unique composite aircraft were kept isolated from other Luftwaffe personnel, except for those in KG 200, the "Mystery Geschweder" that was Germany's clandestine operations wing. KG 200 was activated in early 1944 as a transport wing for German intelligence operations. Soon it's operational role was expanded to testing of new weapons such as wire guided, remote-control bombs, torpedoes and the Mistle composite flying bombs. This limited edition print depicts Unteroffizier Werner Seitz, the last living Luftwaffe aviator to have piloted one of these unique aircraft. Unteroffizier Seitz, formerly a JU 88 pilot who was recruited into KG 200, was one of four pilots to participate in the last Mistle mission of WW 11. Shot down after releasing his flying bomb against a Soviet-held bridge over the Oder River, Seitz was presumed lost, but made his way back to German lines on foot.
